British R&B legend Craig David is stepping into Afrobeats territory, and he's bringing one of the best in the game along for the ride. The singer has teased his upcoming single Commitment, a collaboration with Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage.
A snippet of the track surfaced online after Savage posted a video on Instagram, showing David performing the unreleased song at an event in the UK. While an official release date remains under wraps, the anticipation is already building.
David, 43, has a special connection with Nigerian music lovers, thanks to classics like 7 Days and Walking Away, staples from his 2000 breakout album Born To Do It. Now, he’s tapping into the Afrobeats wave with Savage, whose global footprint in the genre is undeniable.
“Tiwa is an incredible artist,” he told The Sun UK in an interview about the collaboration.
“When I finished Commitment, I felt like the song needed her. It’s an Afrobeats type of song, and that’s her world—she lives, eats, and breathes it.”
The UK star admitted he wasn’t sure if Savage would be interested, but she jumped on the opportunity.
“I gave her the license to do her own thing. I told her not to feel constrained by the song I’d sent and asked her to add her own verse,” he said.
“She came back with it, and I was like, ‘Yo! This is the one.’”
For Savage, Commitment is another addition to an already impressive roster of international link-ups. The singer has worked with the likes of Beyoncé and Brandy, cementing her status as one of Africa’s most sought-after musical exports.
As the countdown to Commitment begins, one thing is certain—Craig David and Tiwa Savage are about to drop a cross-continental banger.
