Nigerian artist Chike recently made headlines by gifting N1 million to a critic who alleged that Chike's success was solely due to his late collaborator, Mohbad. The exchange began on X (formerly Twitter) when Chike posted a teaser of an unreleased song. Critic Daniel Omowonuola Lawal (@Hateofx) commented, “Mohbad made you,” implying that Chike’s fame was directly linked to his work with Mohbad.
In a witty comeback, Chike suggested that Lawal would struggle to achieve success on his own, stating, “Your mother made you, but I hope you find someone to MAKE you because I don’t see you doing it yourself.” Lawal responded by emphasizing Mohbad’s role in Chike’s success, including his streaming figures.
Chike then directly addressed Lawal, offering N1 million to demonstrate his belief that Lawal’s criticisms were unfounded. He said, “Let the good guy rest in peace. I’ll send you 1M now, so hunger can clear your eyes and help you see the truth.” Lawal shared his account details, and Chike promptly transferred the money, posting the transaction receipt on X with the caption: “Hungry boy go and eat.”
Chike, who began his music career in 2015 with Project Fame and was a first runner-up on The Voice of Nigeria in 2016, continues to make waves in the industry.
