Chelsea have brought back Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace after injuries to defenders Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.
With Fofana’s recovery delayed, the club decided to recall Chalobah to boost their defensive options.
Chalobah, a Chelsea academy graduate, was left out of the first-team plans last summer and informed he was not part of the club’s long-term vision. He joined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan, where he became a key part of their defense.
Reports indicate that Chalobah had settled well at Palace and was enjoying regular playing time. However, Chelsea’s recent struggles in the Premier League, including no wins in their last five matches, pushed manager Enzo Maresca to reassess the squad.
With both Fofana and Badiashile sidelined by hamstring injuries, Chalobah’s versatility as a center-back and right-back is seen as crucial for Maresca’s possession-focused style of play.
Chelsea have also recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan at Boca Juniors to add more depth to their defense.
While the club considered re-signing Marc Guéhi from Palace, recalling Chalobah was seen as a simpler solution. Crystal Palace are expected to rely on Chris Richards and Chadi Riad to fill the defensive gap left by Chalobah.
