Nigerian comedian and filmmaker AY Makun’s latest movie, The Waiter, has achieved significant success, grossing ₦302 million at the Nigerian box office as of January 16, 2025.
Released on December 20, 2024, the film earned over ₦200 million within its first two weeks, totaling ₦218.6 million by early January.
In its fourth week, The Waiter added an additional ₦26.6 million, maintaining strong performance amid stiff competition.
The movie centers on Akpos, portrayed by AY Makun, a man facing tough times who secures a short-term job as a waiter at the upscale Crystal Hotel. His life takes an unexpected turn during a major event led by the Minister of Poverty Alleviation, where a plan to assist the less fortunate is unveiled.
