Spanish club Atletico Madrid have added Nigeria and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to their list of potential signings as they search for a new defensive midfielder this summer, according to CaughtOffside.
The La Liga side is looking to fill the void left in their squad as captain Koke Resurreccion nears the end of his career and Thomas Lemar is expected to leave. Ndidi has emerged as a key target, alongside Mallorca's Samu Costa.
Ndidi was previously linked with a move to Barcelona last summer but chose to renew his contract with Leicester City. However, he is expected to leave the Premier League club in 2025, attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, and AS Monaco.
Real Betis are considering Ndidi as a replacement for Johnny Cardoso, who is likely to join Tottenham Hotspur, while Monaco reportedly had a £20 million bid for the Nigerian turned down during the winter transfer window.
Ndidi, 28, has a contract with Leicester until 2027 and has made 208 Premier League appearances for the club. He played a significant role in Leicester’s FA Cup victory in the 2020/21 season and was instrumental in their Championship-winning campaign in 2023/24, contributing four goals and five assists in 32 appearances.
