Amorim links Man United job cuts to poor results

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that the club’s recent job cuts are largely due to poor performances on the pitch.

United announced on Monday that up to 200 employees will be laid off as part of a “transformation plan” aimed at stabilizing the club’s finances. This follows last year’s job cuts, which saw around 250 staff members let go. The club, which has suffered financial losses for five straight years, has also increased ticket prices in an effort to manage costs.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, has struggled to turn things around. United have won just four Premier League matches under his leadership and currently sit in 15th place ahead of Wednesday’s home game against Ipswich Town.

When asked about the job cuts in his pre-match press conference, Amorim acknowledged the link between the team’s struggles and the club’s financial situation.

“That is clear,” he said. “The football team is the engine of any club, and the lack of success has played a big role in this situation. My focus is on improving the team, the players, and our results.”

Despite a tough season, Amorim is hopeful that success in the Europa League and FA Cup could lift the mood at Old Trafford.

“It has been a very difficult year,” he admitted. “When a team is winning, it makes any transition easier for the club and the fans. But right now, we are facing challenges both on and off the pitch. Our job is to fight through this period and do our best to improve performances.”
