The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has ignited controversy by lifting the suspension on actress Adanma Luke, mere months after the tragic death of popular actor Junior Pope. Luke, who produced the ill-fated film “The Other Side of Life,” faced suspension after Junior Pope and four crew members perished in a boat accident on the River Niger en route to the movie set on April 10, 2024.
The AGN initially suspended Luke for violating safety protocols and barred members from collaborating with her. However, in a surprising move, AGN National Secretary Abubakar Yakubu announced the suspension’s reversal. AGN President Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas not only reinstated Luke but also lifted the ban on filming in riverine areas, despite the recent fatalities. Rollas emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety standards, but the decision has ignited debate about accountability and safety in the industry.
