Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles, ended their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a surprising 2-1 defeat to Rwanda on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Despite the loss, Nigeria had already secured a spot in AFCON 2025, finishing top of Group D with 11 points.
Samuel Chukwueze scored for Nigeria in the 59th minute, but Rwanda equalized through Aimable Mutinzi in the 72nd minute. Imanishimwe Nshuti sealed Rwanda's comeback victory just three minutes later.
The first half ended goalless, with both teams missing chances. Rwanda capitalized on Nigeria's defensive mistakes in the second half.
Nigeria finished Group D with three wins, two draws, and one loss. Benin secured second place with 8 points, joining Nigeria in the tournament. Libya finished last with 5 points.
This loss won't affect Nigeria's participation in AFCON 2025, scheduled to take place in Morocco.
