Nollywood star Adesua Etomi-Wellington has revisited the dark days of her pregnancy battle with hyperemesis gravidarum—a brutal condition that turned her world upside down.

Taking to Instagram, Adesua reacted to the heartbreaking story of Jess Cronshaw, a 24-year-old UK woman who took her own life after struggling with the illness. The actress minced no words, calling out the widespread ignorance surrounding the condition.

“When I talk about the seriousness of hyperemesis gravidarum, people don’t get it, and I hate it,” she wrote. “It is not ordinary morning sickness. It is a serious condition that literally affects the quality of your life.”

She credited her survival to an unshakable support system—her husband, doctors, family, and friends—who stood by her through the ordeal.

Hyperemesis gravidarum isn’t your regular pregnancy nausea. It’s a relentless storm of vomiting and dehydration that can leave women weak, malnourished, and, in severe cases, hospitalized. While some manage it at home, others, like Cronshaw, find it unbearable.

Adesua and Banky W, who tied the knot in 2017, welcomed their first child, Hazaiah, in 2021. The power couple recently relocated to the United States and, in October, announced the birth of their second child.

For many women, hyperemesis gravidarum is a silent struggle. But Adesua is making sure their voices are heard.
