UCL: Why Liverpool lost to PSG – Slot

Liverpool manager Arne Slot described his team’s Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain as the "best game" he has ever been part of but admitted they "ran out of luck" in the penalty shootout.

The Reds, who had a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, fell behind early when Ousmane Dembélé scored in the 12th minute. Despite creating multiple chances, Liverpool couldn’t find the net, and the match ended in penalties.

PSG’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saved spot-kicks from Darwin Núñez and Curtis Jones, securing a 4-1 shootout victory for the French side.

“It was an incredible performance, especially compared to last week,” Slot said. “We created chances but ended up 1-0 down. We ran out of luck.”

Slot also questioned the new Champions League format, suggesting that finishing top of the group stage didn’t provide much advantage.

“We topped the table, yet we still had to face PSG in the last 16,” he noted. “We impressed Europe, but what does finishing first really mean if you meet one of the strongest teams so early?”

Despite the disappointment, Slot praised his team’s fighting spirit and urged them to focus on their remaining competitions.
