Nigerian music star, Tems has made a power move into the world of sports business. The two-time Grammy award winner has officially joined the ownership group of San Diego FC, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team in the United States.
The club made the announcement on Wednesday, revealing that Tems secured her stake through The Leading Vibe, her company. This strategic acquisition was made possible through a partnership with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm known for driving investors for NBA Africa.
With this move, Tems joins an influential circle of San Diego FC partners who share a commitment to excellence and community engagement. “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community,” Tems said. “Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”
The singer, who was born in Lagos, expressed her passion for football as a unifying force and her excitement to contribute to the club’s vision.
She is now the first female Nigerian artiste to own a soccer club, as she joins an impressive roster of co-owners that includes former Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata, Hollywood actress Issa Rae, and retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink.
San Diego FC, founded in May 2023, is set to make its debut in the MLS during the 2025 season. With Tems now on board, the club isn’t just looking to compete—they’re aiming to dominate, backed by a visionary team that bridges sports, culture, and community impact.
