Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens ended their preparations for the 2025 ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup with a decisive seven-wicket victory over Scotland in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Wednesday.
The match, held at the Royal Selangor Club, showcased Nigeria’s readiness for the tournament, with Captain Lucky Piety leading her team to a confident performance. Nigeria, who won the toss and chose to field, restricted Scotland to just 62 runs in 18.2 overs. Lillian Ude was instrumental, taking three wickets, while Shola Adekunle claimed two. Kehinde Amusa, Peace Usen, and Piety each took one wicket, leaving Scotland struggling to build momentum.
In response, Nigeria reached 64 runs for the loss of three wickets in just 11.3 overs. Captain Piety shone with 28 runs not out from 16 balls, hitting three sixes. Victory Igbinedion contributed 25 runs, continuing her strong form after a solid showing against Pakistan earlier in the week.
This win follows Nigeria’s near-upset against eighth-ranked Pakistan and sets high expectations as the team heads into the World Cup. Ranked 25th in the world, Nigeria outperformed Scotland, who are ranked 11th, making a strong statement ahead of their debut.
Nigeria’s campaign begins on Saturday, January 18, against Samoa at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Kuching, Malaysia. They will face New Zealand on Monday, January 20, before concluding the group stage against South Africa on January 22.
