Ademola Lookman’s father has credited his son’s humility, focus, and dedication to football for his historic win as the 2024 CAF Player of the Year.
The Nigerian forward was honored at a star-studded ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, beating top rivals like Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams.
Lookman, 27, received the prestigious award from FIFA president Gianni Infantino. Dressed in traditional African attire, the England-born player delighted the audience by delivering his acceptance speech in Yoruba, his native language, earning praise both in the hall and across social media.
Speaking after the ceremony, Lookman’s father shared his pride in his son during an interview with journalist Calister Enejele. He highlighted the values of humility and commitment as the driving forces behind the football star’s remarkable achievements.
“I am proud of him as a father because he is a very committed player, he is very humble, he does not like too much publicity, because he really wants to focus on his football. And that is what has taken him to this level,” he said.
