Nigerian filmmaker, Tope Adebayo has shared his excitement over winning the ‘Best Director’ award at the 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards.

The ceremony took place on Sunday, November 24, at the Sugar Factory Film Studios in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Tope was recognized for his exceptional work on Jagun Jagun: The Warrior, an epic film directed for his brother, Femi Adebayo. The movie was a major highlight of the night, securing six awards in total.

Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle during the event, Tope described the win as a “big surprise.” He admitted he wasn’t entirely confident about his chances of winning but expressed gratitude that his efforts were finally acknowledged.

“I feel so excited because I’ve been expecting this for a very long time. I do not know why it was this delayed but thank God finally that I did it,” he said.

“Not really because you know I was hoping I could not get it. So today I was just in between, I was not really sure of it. When my name was called, I did not even know what to say. It came as a surprise, big surprise.”

Jagun Jagun: The Warrior also won awards for ‘Best Actor,’ ‘Best Costume,’ ‘Best Indigenous Film,’ ‘Best Production Design,’ and ‘Best Special Effect.’

The film, which has been widely praised for its storytelling and production quality, continues to cement its place as one of the most celebrated Nollywood projects of recent times.
