Real Madrid are reportedly considering Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman as a potential replacement for Vinicius Junior.
According to The Punch, Madrid could bring Lookman to the Santiago Bernabeu if Vinicius departs, with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia reportedly preparing a record-breaking €300 million bid for the Brazilian.
Lookman, who joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, has been in top form, scoring 39 goals and providing 23 assists in 90 games. Last season, he netted 17 goals, including a remarkable hat-trick in the Europa League final, which helped Atalanta lift the trophy. This season, Lookman has continued to impress with seven goals and five assists in 12 appearances.
The 27-year-old forward was close to joining Paris Saint-Germain in August but stayed with Atalanta. However, with several top clubs interested, his departure might not be far off.
Spanish outlet Fichajes via El Futbolero noted, “Faced with uncertainty over Vinícius Jr.’s contract renewal, the Merengues have set their sights on a promising Serie A talent. Ademola Lookman, a winger for Atalanta, has emerged as one of the main options to take the Brazilian’s place should he decide to leave the Santiago Bernabéu.”
Lookman’s versatility, speed, and dribbling ability make him a strong fit for Real Madrid’s style under Carlo Ancelotti. The Nigerian is valued at €60 million, a fee that Madrid would likely have no trouble paying. At the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony, he was ranked the 14th best player in the world and is considered a favorite for the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
