Donald Trump is set to return to the White House after reaching 270 electoral votes, major U.S. media outlets like Fox News report.
Almost four years after his dramatic departure from Washington, Trump is set to make history as the first U.S. president in over a century to lose the presidency and then win it back. The last to do so was Grover Cleveland in 1892.
Trump secured the victory by winning key states like Pennsylvania and Alaska, which gave him the necessary electoral votes.
Kamala Harris, his Democratic rival and the current Vice President, had 194 confirmed electoral votes compared to Trump’s 265 before the last states were decided.
“The journey back to the White House has been tough, but America spoke,” Trump said in a statement after the election, noting strong voter turnout in Republican areas as a major factor.
Trump’s campaign remained strong, claiming victories in important states like Georgia and North Carolina and making gains in traditionally Democratic states.
