Arsenal Football Club has officially announced that Edu Gaspar has stepped down as Sporting Director.
The club released the statement on Monday evening, confirming the news that had been circulating earlier.
Edu, a member of Arsenal's legendary "Invincibles," returned to the club in 2019 as Technical Director. Known for his commitment and leadership, he was promoted to Sporting Director in 2022, overseeing the club’s men’s, women’s, and academy teams, and helping shape Arsenal's football vision.
Edu admitted the decision was tough, saying, "This was incredibly hard to make. Arsenal has allowed me to work with amazing people and be part of something special." He thanked key figures, including Stan and Josh Kroenke, for their support throughout his tenure.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Edu spoke fondly of the relationships he built, especially with head coach Mikel Arteta, describing him as a close friend. "Now it’s time for a new challenge," he said, adding that Arsenal will always hold a place in his heart.
In response, Arsenal Co-Chair Josh Kroenke thanked Edu for his dedication, saying the club respects his decision and wishes him well in his future endeavors. He reassured fans that the club remains focused on its strategy and ambitions, with a solid succession plan in place.
Edu's departure ends a defining chapter at Arsenal, marked by his influential role in driving forward the club’s vision and values.
