A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Courage Ipaka to two years in prison for impersonating Nigerian singer Flavour and defrauding a U.S. woman of $53,000.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ipaka posed as Flavour and promised to organize music shows in the United States, receiving payments from the victim, Yvelte M. Thompson, through Bitcoin wallets. The funds were later converted to Naira and transferred to his Access Bank account.
The investigation, led by EFCC's Azibagiri Dan Ekpar, revealed that Flavour had no involvement in the scam. Ipaka admitted to the crime during the investigation. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of N2 million as an alternative to the prison sentence.
