Federico Chiesa has joined Liverpool from Juventus in a transfer worth £12.5 million ($16.5 million). The 26-year-old Italian international signed a four-year contract, with Liverpool paying an initial £10 million, and an additional £2.5 million depending on the team's performance during his time at the club.

Chiesa was once considered a rising star in European football, especially after helping Italy win Euro 2020. However, his career has been hampered by a serious cruciate ligament injury in January 2022 and subsequent fitness issues.

"I immediately said yes because I know the history of this club and what it means to the fans," Chiesa said in a statement from Liverpool. "I'm very happy and can't wait to get started."

Chiesa's arrival strengthens Liverpool's attacking options, which already include Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo. Chiesa was in the final year of his contract with Juventus and had not been selected for the first two matches under new coach Thiago Motta.

This transfer marks Liverpool’s second signing of the transfer window. Earlier this week, they agreed on a deal to bring Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
