Nigeria's Super Falcons have held their 1st spot in the latest FIFA world rankings for women's football in Africa. Despite their recent struggles on the international stage, the team remains the 36th-ranked women's football team globally.
The rankings, released on Friday, August 16, 2024, reflect the team's performance at the Women's Summer Olympics in Paris, where they faced a tough campaign. The Super Falcons were eliminated in the group stage after three straight losses. They were narrowly defeated 1-0 by both Brazil and Spain, and suffered a 3-1 loss to Japan, which left them at the bottom of Group C.
While their Olympic run was disappointing, the Falcons continue to lead the way in African women's football.
Following Nigeria in the African rankings are South Africa (50th), Morocco (59th), Zambia (62nd), and Ghana (66th).
