Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to become the new head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team, according to multiple sources.
This news follows the dismissal of Gregg Berhalter, who was let go after the team's disappointing group-stage exit in this summer’s Copa América.
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano announced on Thursday via X, “Mauricio Pochettino is the new USMNT manager, leading the U.S. to the 2026 World Cup. After discussions with several candidates, the former Chelsea and Spurs coach has accepted the offer and the project, as reported overnight in the U.S.”
The Athletic confirmed this, noting that Pochettino “has agreed to become the next head coach of the U.S. men’s national soccer team.” This appointment is a significant move for U.S. Soccer, bringing in a manager with a strong record at the club level.
Pochettino’s experience includes leading Southampton to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League, guiding Tottenham Hotspur to a Champions League final in 2019, and winning a Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain.
