The Nigerian men’s 4x400m relay team has been disqualified from the final of the event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The team, consisting of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Dubem Amene, and Chidi Okezie, had initially secured a spot in the final by finishing second in their heat behind France, clocking a season’s best time of 2:59.81. However, they were later disqualified for stepping on the line during their heat.
As a result of Nigeria's disqualification, Belgium has moved up to second place, with South Africa taking third. The Nigerian team’s hopes of replicating the success of the 2000 and 2004 teams, which won gold and bronze in Sydney and Athens, have now been dashed.
