Pastor Emmanuel Iren, founder of Celebration Church International, has shared his views on the controversial win of secular artist Tems in the Gospel/Inspirational category at the BET Awards.
In a recent interview, Pastor Iren remarked that the church has no grounds for complaint, pointing out that some gospel singers prefer to identify as inspirational artists rather than being labeled strictly as gospel singers.
He observed that while some gospel musicians may produce popular music, their work might not necessarily align with the traditional gospel category. Pastor Iren urged gospel artists not to be concerned with secular awards, suggesting that they could create their own awards instead.
Additionally, the pastor commented on the increasing trend of gospel artists collaborating with secular musicians, noting that it blurs the distinction between the two genres. He argued that those who choose to work with secular artists should not be surprised or upset when they are grouped together or marginalized in mainstream awards.
