80-year-old South Korean model, Choi Soon-hwa has become the oldest contestant in the Miss Universe competition.
Born in 1943, Choi will compete against 31 younger finalists for the Miss Universe Korea crown on September 30. If she wins, she'll represent South Korea at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City on November 16.
Choi told CNN, "I want to stun the world, like, 'How is an 80-year-old lady so healthy? How did she maintain that body? What's your diet?'"
She hopes to inspire people to maintain wellness and weight in old age. "When you get old, you gain weight. So, I want to show that we can live healthily even when we get old."
Choi started modeling at 72 and debuted at Seoul Fashion Week at 74. She's appeared in major magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Elle.
The Miss Universe Organization lifted its upper age limit, making Choi eligible. Last year, they also removed bans on pregnant women, mothers, and married women.
Choi's remarkable journey promotes healthy aging and challenges traditional beauty standards.
